by Liz and Tim @HuntSchoolMusic

Romanticism lends itself beautifully to the exploration of the depths of emotion found in the Requiem Mass. There’s no wonder that the genre has become a concert favourite, because there is so much scope for drama. Emotions expressed in the Requiem range from the utterly terrifying , to calm serenity. Many composers employ ‘word painting’ to capture this in their melodic writing, plus the symbolism of compositional devices like the pedal note, to represent the inevitable and eternity.
