Developments in Music Technology: Distortion

This resource looks at the ways in which distortion offers a range of textural and lo-fi effects. It is an effect most commonly found in hard-edged, gritty music production.

Distortion was initially avoided in the recording signal chain wherever possible, e.g. by carefully monitored levels being produced/recorded, but it has in more recent times become a desired sound/effect in certain genres.
